What Does the Christmas Bureau Do?

The Christmas Bureau provides needy families the opportunity to have presents for their children at Christmas time. These families are referred to us through agencies in Dekalb County and then each family is interviewed individually to determine their eligibility. Then we get the children's clothing sizes and interests so we can provide them with the most appropriate clothing and toys. Our goal is to provide each child with one or two toys, books, a stuffed animal, stocking stuffers, and two outfits of clothes, including socks, underwear, pajamas, and hat, gloves and a coat if needed. Teens are often given a gift certificate to pick out their own items.

How Can You Help?

Individuals and agencies can adopt a family with children by calling the Shelter Ministries office at 925-9200. You can request the size family you want and even the location in Dekalb County.

You may drop off donations of gifts or money at the Shelter Ministries office at 315 E. Seventh Street, Auburn, Indiana. Needed items are new clothing for infants size 0 through 1, and boys and girls pants, sizes 8 through 18, as well as new coats, hats, and gloves. Please do not wrap these items.

Applications for assistance may currently be picked up at 315 E 7th Street between the hours of 8:30 AM and 12:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
