Funding is available to the residents of Dekalb County to help with unexpected emergencies involving such things as medication, transportation and shelter.  Because we receive so many requests for help, there is a limit of two instances per year for families or individuals.  These funds are made available by application through the administrative office of Shelter Ministries at 315 East Seventh Street, in Auburn.

The money for Community Assistance comes primarily from The Salvation Army and The Lutheran Foundation. The Salvation Army funding is brought in through our county's Red Kettle Drive, from Thanksgiving through Christmas.  Shelter Ministries is responsible for recruiting and scheduling volunteers to ring bells at our red kettles at WalMart  and Kroger Stores, as well as setting out "mini" kettles at locations such as Richard's Restaurant and Ponderosa Steak House. During the past two Christmas seasons, Dekalb County has been one of the top counties in the state for total income. Your assistance as a Salvation Army Bell Ringer is greatly needed. Call our office at 260-925-9200 for information on how to become a Bell Ringer.
