"For I was hungry
and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty
and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger
 and you invited me in,
 I needed clothes
and you clothed me,
I was sick
and you looked after me,
 I was in prison
and you came to visit me.
I tell you the truth,
whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine,
 you did for me."

Matthew 25:35, 36, 40

The Shelter Ministries Food Bank is available to residents of Dekalb County. Housed in our new location, at 2100 S. Wayne Street in Auburn, Indiana, there is ample parking space for the many people who visit this facility each month. Trained volunteers interview each client to take basic information or update records. Clients will need a photo ID. The interviewer may make referrals to other resources that may help the client with their other needs also. The needs of these families may be temporary, or it may be part of a long-term situation.

All those associated with The Shelter Ministries Food Bank pray that, although patrons received a limited supply of food  for their bodies, they will receive an unlimited supply of food for their souls. That is why we view the food items given away through this facility as a means toward achieving a greater end. In the process of responding to their material needs, we often become engaged in responding to their internal and eternal needs. Success is not measured in the two to three grocery bags disbursed, but rather in the quality of relationship that has been developed between our ministry corps and patrons.

The Food Bank relies heavily on donations of food, and money, to keep the pantry stocked with food.
